It’s Monday, June 30, 2025. Good morning!
Have you ever heard of a plumb line? It’s an old carpenter’s tool—a simple string with a weight at the end. When it hangs freely, gravity does its thing and pulls it perfectly straight. No arguments. No opinions. The plumb line is absolute—without bias and totally impartial. That’s what Amos saw: God standing beside a wall, holding a plumb line. Then God says, “I’m dropping this among My people.” Translation? “Here’s the standard. I am measuring everything by it.”
Today's Reading:
Amos 7,8,9; Psalms 104; Titus 2
Scripture
“The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in His hand. And the Lord asked, ‘What do you see, Amos?’ ‘A plumb line,’ I replied. Then the Lord said, ‘Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel…’” (Amos 7:7-8)
Observation
This brings to mind Solomon’s words: “God made people upright, but they have sought out many schemes” (Ecclesiastes 7:29). We were designed with a moral compass—factory-installed! But over time, we can tamper with it until it’s completely off. Our conscience becomes dulled and misaligned. Then North starts looking like South, and wrong starts sounding more and more like right.
Application
That’s when God steps in with a divine aftermarket upgrade. The Word of God is the eternal plumb line—unshakable, unchanging. It doesn’t move to match culture. It doesn’t shift with our moods. It’s not the Word that needs adjusting. It’s us.
Each day, I must choose whether I’ll lean with my flesh or stand by His truth. And I’ll be honest—sometimes my feelings beg to redraw the line. But God doesn’t budge. And I’m learning that’s a good thing. Because deep down, I don’t want to be slightly off. I want to be true. I want to be a man who lives in alignment—with the plumb line of heaven.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, keep that plumb line in front of me—clear, steady, and unmistakable. When I’m tempted to walk my own way, remind me of the wall You’re building in me. Make me upright. Make me true. Help me measure everything I say, believe, and do by Your eternal standard. In Jesus’ name, amen.
