The Intentional Life

by Wayne Cordeiro on June 09, 2023

Happy Friday! It's June 9, 2023, and today, Paul will be discussing the art of living wisely. As I listen to him, I can't help but reflect on my own choices and ponder if I have always acted wisely. However, there exists a secret to living life wisely—it’s not hard…  just rare.  Read on …

Today's Reading:
Ecclesiastes 10,11,12; Psalms 94; Ephesians 5

Scripture

“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of your time for the days are evil. So then, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-16)

Observation

How I invest my time seems awfully important to our God. It involves making a deliberate choice to live an intentional life. An intentional life is not a rushed life; it is filled with purposeful movement, not pointlessness. It is also a life with planned pauses without becoming passive. He calls us to be direct without demanding and content without communicating a careless attitude.

Application

The word 'intentional' sums up the essence of a life marked by wisdom. A wise person understands the value of time and takes the necessary steps to discern God's will for their current season. Failing to do so results in actions driven by foolishness.
'Making the most of your time, for the days are evil.'

Days without planning have an interesting term given to them by the Scriptures — “foolish.”  Our one life must be planned in accordance with God's will, with a sense of urgency but not hurriedness that leads to foolishness. I have observed some Christians who appear overly zealous, while others seem to have succumbed to laziness. God calls us to a thoughtful life, where we live intentionally and bear fruit.

“You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you,
and appointed you that you should go forth and bear fruit,
and that your fruit should remain!”
John 15:16

Prayer

Dear Father, today I will take the time to review what You have called me to do and re-evaluate my assignment. I will live accordingly and set my face as flint to do my Father’s will. Please help me as I check, re-evaluate, and recalibrate my course.
