The God Who Hears

by Chris Kiriakos on July 02, 2025

Happy Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025. If you say “Hey Siri” or “Hey Google” (depending on what kind of phone you have), chances are something will chirp back at you—maybe with an answer, maybe with something completely unrelated. It’s fast and convenient, but not always helpful. It made me think: how often do we turn to things that respond quickly… but don’t hear?

Today's Reading:
Isaiah 4,5; Psalms 115,116; Jude

Scripture

“I love the Lord, because He hears My voice and my pleas. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1-2 NASB)‭

Observation

This verse doesn’t begin with obligation—it begins with love. And that love flows from one simple truth: God hears me. Not just once, not just when I say it right, but whenever I speak—even when all I can offer is a breath or a groan.

It’s like the psalmist is saying:

“Don’t let the silence fool you—God isn’t absent. He’s listening. Even to your quietest whisper. So talk to Him. He’s leaning in.”

He leans in. The God of the universe inclines His ear toward me. He doesn’t ask me to shout louder—He moves closer. He listens, really listens. He’s the God who hears.

Application

Here’s what’s convicting: I know God hears me… but I don’t always talk to Him first. If I’m honest, I probably talk to Siri or Google more often than I pray. When I’m anxious, confused, or just want direction—I reach for a screen to look something up before I look up.

We’ve trained ourselves to turn to what’s quick, not what’s realBut Siri doesn’t love me. Google can’t carry my burdens. God can. And He does.

So today I’m asking myself: Where do I turn first? Who gets my first words—the algorithm or the Almighty?

I love the Lord—He hears me.

Prayer

God, I’ve gotten used to quick answers from things that don’t care about me. But You do. You hear. You listen. You love me. Help me slow down long enough to remember that. Remind me that You’re not distant. You’re leaning in. Teach me to pray like You’re listening—because You are. Thank you for being the God who hears. I love You. Amen.
