Good morning! It is Thursday, May 2, 2024. The muscles I consistently use tend to grow stronger, but the ones I ignore tend to move with terrifying haste toward atrophy. My gratefulness muscle has been getting flabby lately. Yours too? Read on …
Today's Reading:
1 Chronicles 16; Psalm 106; Matthew 19
Scripture
“When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea” (Psalm 106:7)
Observation
I should remember.
However, I've been forgetting the acts of kindness done by my spouse, family, and the leaders I serve with. I tend to forget that I have been favored by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors who were delivered from Egypt. They forgot God's story of His stunning omnipotence in their lives.
Application
Somehow, I've been working more on my "me" muscles than others. It's like having huge biceps, a skinny body, and chicken legs. When I think about my woes, responsibilities, and all I must do, my worry muscles get bigger, and my faith muscles shrink! I'm like my ancestors, the Israelites, who began focusing more on their problems than the story of God's remarkable presence.
Their gratefulness muscles began to wither … just like mine.
Prayer
God, please continue writing Your story in me. Please help me express gratitude more often starting today! Keep my eyes on You, and help me rebuild the muscle group I have neglected. Then, hopefully, my gratefulness muscle will get back into shape!
