Pending Questions

by Wayne Cordeiro on April 17, 2024

Today is Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Have you ever been reading and come up with a blank? I have a series of question marks alongside several verses in 1 Samuel 19. These go into a file in my cranium labeled “pending.” It’s quite full at times, but I have found that, along the way, God will pull some of those questions out and answer them. Read on …

Today's Reading:

1 Samuel 19; 1 Chronicles 7; Psalm 59; Matthew 4

Scripture

“Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth. He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night. This is why people say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” (1 Samuel 19:23-24)

Observation

This is why people say: “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

I’m glad I’m not the only one! Even the people had difficulties with what had been transpiring. This and so many other questions beg for answers!

  • Was Saul, in today’s vernacular, “bipolar?”
  • Why did Michal initially defend David and then turn against him in the end?
  • What’s all this about ‘prophesying naked’?

Application

This chapter will require some exploration. I don’t understand it all, but one thing I do know… I still have a long way to go. Nevertheless, I need to proceed even with unanswered questions lingering. I must also remember that some of the things God does defy understanding! For example, in Philippians 4:6-7, there is a peace made available to me that is "beyond understanding." So, if I want the peace of God, I will need to be okay with things that are beyond my understanding. I’ll research more about Saul’s problem and naked prophesying, but until then, I know this one thing: "Jesus loves me, this I know - for the Bible tells me so!"

Prayer

Father, sometimes I try so hard to read between the lines that I miss the lines! Help me remember that there is so much that I do understand. Of course, I will research and study, but may my “pending file” never negate my file labeled: “These Truths I Know!”
