Our Road To Damascus

by Wayne Cordeiro on October 18, 2021

Today's Reading:
Job 3,4; Acts 8,9

Scripture

“Suddenly a light from heaven shone around him and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ and he said, ‘Who art Thou Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting …’ And Saul got up from the ground and through his eyes were open, he could see nothing.” (Acts 9:3-8)

Observation

It’s interesting to note that when Paul was persecuting people in the church, Jesus said that he was persecuting Him. Oh, how that realization, even now, pains me. When I persecute other Christians, I am persecuting Jesus Himself. Yet, we can live our whole lives without recognizing this heinous deed taking place. Slander, accusation, hatred, strife, and the bitter feelings we tolerate … they’re tantamount to slandering and hating Jesus Himself.

“When Saul got up from the ground, though his eyes were open, he could see nothing” (Acts 9:8). God made his physical condition match his spiritual condition. His eyes wouldn’t work because that is how he really was.

Application

Have you ever gone into a conversation saying, “Now we always end up talking bad about so and so, but this time I’m not getting involved;” yet we end up doing just what we said we would not do? When I get into a habit of doing this, I start to live under the deception that I’m righteous … when I am indeed deceived.

So, by God’s great grace, He sends me on the road to Damascus. That road may be when sickness knocks me down, or a setback, or a season of loneliness or blindness. But if I will handle this correctly, then my Road to Damascus will not be a dead-end, but a new beginning!

Prayer

Father, keep the road to Damascus close to me that anytime I need to travel there.
