Happy Monday. It is May 16th, 2022. We had a great time in Hawaii, and we are now back in Oregon. Today we draw near to the heart of God. Psalms 91 is one of my favorites, but believe it or not, it is one of Satan’s favorites too! That’s right. In the New Testament, he used it to try and dupe Jesus by using the Bible to mask and disguise his evil intent. He will try that on us, too. Read on …
Today's Reading:
1 Kings 1; 1 Chronicles 28; Psalms 91; 1 Thessalonians 5
Scripture
"For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone” -Ps. 91:11-12
Observation
This is one of the most encouraging chapters in the book of Psalms! However, it was also a chapter that was used to tempt Jesus in Luke 4. Satan also knew Psalms 91 and twisted it to misrepresent the heart of God and give Jesus an alibi to sin.
Jesus, however, not only knew the Word of God, but He knew the HEART OF GOD!
We can go to Bible college and know the Word of God. We can study in seminars and classes about the Bible and even accrue a degree or diploma, yet still miss the heart of God. You need both!
Application
The Pharisees knew the scriptures but missed the heart of God, and in doing so, they thought that crucifying the Messiah was the right thing to do!
Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you’ll find eternal life, but the Scriptures bear witness of Me!”
If I miss the heart of Jesus, I will misrepresent the Word or worse … the enemy will misrepresent the Word, and I will bite on the lure and find only destruction.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, help me be careful so that I don’t just “know what the Bible says” but miss Your heart! Help me to stay near You so that I know Your heart.
