Happy Tuesday! It is December 17, 2024. How often, in my conversations, do I encounter irrational thinking! The way some people process their thoughts, forming perspectives, is intriguing at best and disturbing at worst. It seems common sense can offend those who have embraced unwholesome patterns of thinking. Peter addresses this issue because it can even happen to Christians. It all depends on where we are standing. Read on...
Today's Reading:
2 Peter 1,2,3; John 1
Scripture
“This is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.” (2 Peter 3:1-2)
Observation
Peter exhorts us to wholesome thinking. I love that phrase. It promotes a kind of thinking that factors in the words of Scripture and its timeless principles. It’s not trying to change the circumstances; it’s changing where I am standing as I look at the circumstances.
It means that I must move to where He is standing!
Sometimes we look for Scriptures from a certain perspective to reinforce our preconceived ideas and intentions. We expect the Bible to revolve around us rather than the other way around.
Wholesome thinking is based on the commands given by our Lord Jesus, and we give these words permission to enter our souls and change our hearts. It includes common sense and practical wisdom in equal amounts.
Application
I want to learn to be a person of wholesome thinking and make decisions based on God's Word without compromise. I want to be sure that God's purpose for my life is fulfilled, and to do this, I must look to see where He stands on issues and then move my feet and heart to where He is!
It’s time for me to consistently see things from where He is standing, not from where I am. I receive revelation and knowledge when I first relocate myself to where He is and then consider each event. Too often, we deliberate and fume over an event and only later look for where God stands on the issue. But by then, we may have already come to false conclusions, and our tendency is to try and adjust His perspective to ours instead of changing.
Prayer
Father, I need wholesome thinking in every area of my life. My inner conversations must be sensible, healthy, and full of integrity, and that comes when I adjust HOW I look at circumstances. When I make that adjustment sooner rather than later, I will understand the freedom of wholesome thinking.
