Today is June 17, 2025. When I graduated from Bible college, I was so excited to jump into ministry—it was my dream! But to my surprise, I wasn’t handed a podium to preach from; I was handed a brush to scrub toilets. My Father knew that the heart of a pastor must first be the heart of a servant. The Apostle Paul agreed. Let’s read on…
Today's Reading:
1 Kings 20,21; 2 Chronicles 17; Colossians 3
Scripture
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
Observation
Paul reminds the church in Colossae that, ultimately, they work for God. Many of them struggled with legalism—doing things to please people rather than to honor God. But people can’t save us or empower us to live the life God calls us to. Christ alone saves us, and He alone deserves our wholehearted devotion.
Application
I’m reminded today: Whatever I put my trust in had better have the power to save me.
When I was handed a toilet brush—becoming, in a sense, a custodian for Christ—I was also given a pair of coveralls with Colossians 3:23–24 printed on the back. That verse reminded us to do everything with all our hearts, as unto the Lord. I needed that reminder then, and I still need it today. Whether I’m preaching to hundreds or counseling one person, I must return to the servant’s quarters at the end of the day.
Matthew 20:28 says, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” Jesus taught us that the greatest in the Kingdom are those who serve. Jesus will be found among the servants—so that’s where I want to be.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I’m honored to be part of Your elite group—Christ’s custodians. Help me serve You with all my heart in everything I do. Amen.
