Happy Thursday! It’s June 5, 2025. Our family is looking forward to summer: the sun, family outings, and a little space to rest and relax. Have you ever really looked forward to something, and when it finally came... it wasn’t what you expected? The psalmist teaches us about this. Let’s dive in.
Today's Reading:
Proverbs 30,31; Psalms 33; Ephesians 1
Scripture
“No king is saved by the size of his army, no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.”
(Psalm 33:16–19)
Observation
We’ve all done it—put too much faith in things that don’t have the power to save us. A paycheck that stops paying. A nice car that breaks down. The dream home that’s not so dreamy anymore. The perfect marriage that now takes work.
When you put so much stock in things that let you down, it feels like your world is falling apart.
Why do we do this?
Things don’t go our way. Our prayers go unanswered. Impatience gets the best of us. So we take things into our own hands, don’t we?
Control creates a false sense of hope, and we live in fear of the day it all comes crashing down.
What do we do?
The psalmist reminds us: focus your fear and hope on the Lord. Whatever you trust in had better have the power to save you.
Application
It’s easy to slip into the mindset of: “If I can just get (fill in the blank), everything will be okay.” My “fill in the blank” is often: more rest, more finances, more obedient children... more. But only Jesus can satisfy the “fill in the blanks” in my life.
Where I place my trust truly matters. Not one of the Lord’s promises to His people has ever failed. And that same promise is given to you and me.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank You for being the same yesterday, today, and forever. You never forget that—but sometimes I do. Help me remember and put my trust in You alone.
