When You Feel Unheard

by Aaron Cordeiro on April 08, 2025

Good morning! Today is April 8, 2025. Have you ever felt unheard—like your prayers are hitting the ceiling or God has gone quiet? We all have—even the most faithful leaders in Scripture wrestled with that same silence. There are many different reasons we feel this way, but no matter the cause, in those moments we’re invited not to pull away, but to lean in. Read on...

Today's Reading:
1 Samuel 3,4,5; Psalm 77; 2 Corinthians 8

Scripture

"Has God forgotten to be merciful?  Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”   Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.  I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”  Your ways, God, are holy.  What god is as great as our God?”  (Psalm 77:9-13)

Observation

Asaph was one of three of King David’s chief worship leaders. A worship leader is someone who helps guide God’s people around the distractions in their lives so they can focus on worshiping Him.

To worship means to give worth to something. Remember this: whatever you give worship—or worth—to, you become like.

The distraction in Asaph’s day was that God seemed distant. Asaph cried out to the Lord in distress because he felt unheard. When God seems silent, it’s time to appeal!

Application

To appeal to God means to sincerely ask or plead for help, direction, forgiveness, or a specific outcome—often in a time of need or struggle. This requires humility and a heart that desires to remain under God’s covering and authority.

When we feel unheard, the temptation is to take matters into our own hands. Don’t do it! Instead, take time to recount the faithfulness of the Lord—both in your life and throughout the Scriptures. But to do that, we must be in the Word of God.

The best way to remember God’s faithfulness is to keep your daily appointment with the King of Kings in His Word. We often think this is about studying the Bible. It’s not. It’s about the Word of God studying us—and shaping us to become more like Christ.

Prayer

Dear Lord, There are times when You may seem silent, but You are always present. I never want to mistake Your silence for absence. You promise that if we draw near to You, You will draw near to us. I choose to draw near to you today. Amen.
