Happy Tuesday. It is December 26, 2023. I pray your Christmas was filled with wonder. Today, we take a closer look at David in the Psalms. We have less than a week left in 2023, so it’s time to set our sights on how we will navigate 2024. David leaves us a life lesson here in Psalm 119. I love his commitment to keep the Word of God. He knew how faithful God’s promises were; they were tried and found true. David knew that his life would be eternally successful if he walked according to God's Word. Read on…
Today's Reading:
Psalm 117; Psalm 119:81-176; 2 John 1; 3 John 1
Scripture
“I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey Your Word… I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow Your righteous laws.” (Psalm 119:101,106)
Observation
David’s goal in life was to live in direct accordance with the Word of God and to follow His ways! He was fully convinced that God’s promises never failed.
“Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them” - Ps. 119:140.
- No hesitation.
- No balking.
- No doubt.
Application
That’s how I’d like it – to be a person fully convinced of God’s promises. The ultimate way to navigate life is to follow His commands. But I must first accurately know His Word in order to obey it. Otherwise (and we’ve all seen this), we would be like the protestors in Portland who had no idea about what they were getting so worked up about.
Some people know His Word but interpret it in a self-centric way, so their actions and attitudes follow suit. Correct obedience can only come from correct reading!
Prayer
Father, David has left us an example of what a heart looks like that pleases You. Everything in my life must be positioned so that I might obey Your precepts and follow Your ways. Your Word has been tried and tested, and it has been found true! I delight in ordering my steps to follow Your Word. I will set my heart to keep Your decrees to the very end (Ps. 119:112) so that my days will be spent in accordance with Your Word (Ps. 119:25, 28, 37, 41).
