This is Love

by Aaron Cordeiro on December 25, 2025

Merry Christmas, everyone! Today is Thursday, December 25, 2025. Christmas brings many things, but it especially reminds us of what is important—love. Love is often reduced to an emotion, something that comes and goes, which is the opposite of God’s love. God’s love is more than a feeling; it is a choice and a commitment that remains unconditional, no matter what life brings. Let’s look at this kind of love.

Today's Reading:
1 John 1,2,3,4,5

Scripture

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:7–10)

Observation

Did you know that the proof of our love for God is loving others? Loving others is also proof that we really know God. We may not like it—but it is true. Remember, God is love. If God is love, then truly loving others is being like the Lord in action. Here’s what it looks like.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  (1 Cor 13:4-7)

Application

There’s a famous Japanese saying: “If you get on the wrong train, get off at the next station—the longer you stay, the more expensive the return trip will be.” Truth is like a train; it always takes us somewhere. If I don’t live my life according to God’s truth about love, I will eventually find myself headed in the wrong direction. Christmas is a reminder that God lovingly stepped in to redirect our lives back to Him.

This Christmas, let’s return to Him and let Him fill us so we can give the gift of His love to others.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Happy Birthday! Thank You for showing us Your love—from the manger to the cross. Thank You for Your resurrection, which gives us new life, and for Your Holy Spirit, who fills us with love and teaches us how to pass it on to others. Amen.
