Welcome to Monday, October 20, 2025. Traffic was delayed today where I was due to a protest, so I went down to talk with one of the agitated sign carriers. I was intrigued to find that his cause was based on an erroneous understanding—but he didn’t want to change. Probably because he had already made his signboard, and his friends were protesting too. So, the truth was secondary to him. What’s the lesson? Read on…
Today's Reading:
Job 6,7,8; Acts 12
Scripture
“The Word of God continued to spread and flourish.” (Acts 12:24)
Observation
Acts 12 reads like a thriller novel, recounting an eventful week in the life of the disciples. It begins with a brilliant escape from a fortified Roman jail. The escapee, Peter, was bound with not just one but two chains, and those assigned to ensure his captivity faced the penalty of death should he escape. Yet Peter eluded them, and when his disappearance was discovered, the guards were summarily executed (see v. 19).
Then Herod, under the illusion that his performance somehow made him divine, was struck down and consumed by parasitic worms.
But in the end, the Word of God kept spreading—not only increasing but flourishing!
Application
If the devil can’t defeat us, he will distract us from the main thing. In this passage, God dials me back to what is most important. Too often, I can be stalled by problems, mistakes, or protests. It’s easy to get pulled in, but I must readjust my focus back to what truly matters.
Proverbs 23:19 reminds me: “Listen, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way.”
It is my responsibility to direct my heart and attention—repeatedly—back to the ways of God. And the good news is this: no matter how many protests there are, or how many signboards are made, the Word of God remains the main thing—and it continues to move forward, unhindered and undistracted.
Prayer
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for continually redirecting my heart and eyes back to the main thing. Whenever I take my eyes off it, I become confused and discouraged.
“For I am afraid that, just as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the purity and simplicity of devotion to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:3)
