Right-Handed Prayers

by Chris Kiriakos on December 12, 2025

Happy Aloha Friday, December 12, 2025. Little Philip was walking home in the rain with his mother after church one Sunday. Just as the rain stopped, they rounded the corner and were met with a vivid double rainbow stretched across the sky. “Doesn’t it look like an artist painted this rainbow?” his mother said. “I bet God painted this just for you!”

“Yes,” Philip replied confidently, “God did it—and He did it left-handed.”

Confused, his mom asked, “What makes you say God used His left hand?”

“Well,” Philip said, “we learned in Sunday School that Jesus sits on God’s right hand.”

Sometimes kids stumble into truth better than adults. That humorous story carries a powerful reminder: God’s right hand is already occupied.

Today's Reading:
Hebrews 5,6,7,8

Scripture

“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.” (Hebrews 8:1)

Observation

This is it, “this is the sum,” in other words, this is the point. After all the theology and all the explanation, here’s the bottom line:

We have a High Priest.

And He is seated at the right hand of God.

The right hand is about authority, power, favor, and action. Kings ruled from their right hand. Covenants were sealed with the right hand. Blessings were given by the right hand.

That’s where Jesus is seated and He’s offering right-handed prayers.

Application

Sometimes my prayers sound like I’m trying to convince God of something He hasn’t considered yet.

However, I don’t pray for access—I pray from access.

I don’t pray hoping to be heard—I pray because I already am.

I don’t pray alone—I pray with a High Priest seated at the right hand of God.

I can pray with faith rooted in where Jesus is.

I can pray right-handed prayers.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for being my High Priest. Thank You that You hear me; you are interceding for me, advocating for me, and covering my prayers with Your authority. Teach me to pray with confidence that I can approach God’s throne of grace and place every request, every fear, and every hope into Your hands. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
