Re-Focus

by Wayne Cordeiro on November 06, 2024

Good morning. It is Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Today, we enter a new season in America, but we continue in our calling as members of the Kingdom of God. We will pray for those in leadership, but we do not depend on them for our welfare. Jesus alone is our Provider and Lord, and we must never forget that.

Tonight, join us at New Hope West for Worship Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 PM, as we pray for our nation and renew our focus as a church. Read on…

Today's Reading:

Job 30; Psalms 120; Galatians 3,4

Scripture

“I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?  Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” (Galatians 3:2-3)

Observation

The new believers in Galatia were being distracted by Jewish leaders who were convincing them that they had to submit to Jewish law to be "good Christians." This side-tracked their faith. The Jewish proselytizers were beginning to succeed in diverting their attention and undermining their reliance on faith in Christ alone. Paul intervenes, urging them to refocus on faith in Jesus rather than on keeping the Law.

Application

We, too, can be like the worried Galatians. In our world, it may not be dogmatic Jews, but rather news propaganda, societal pressures, or the media that can divert our faith toward current events instead of our eternal calling. It’s easy to get preoccupied with the temporary and become flustered—like worrying about whether our candidates were elected. And if not, worry can quickly replace faith.

On the other hand, if our candidates were elected, we might become comfortable or even apathetic, believing they will “fix all our problems.”

Either response is inadequate. We must refocus and place our complete trust in God for our future, not in politicians—whether good or bad.

Prayer

Father, today we enter a new season as citizens of America, but as citizens of Heaven, our assignment remains the same as the one You received when You came to earth. This mission is what You passed along to each of us: to seek and save the lost and to equip the saved to do the same!

Leadership on earth may shift, but Lordship over the universe has belonged to You from the beginning and will remain so forever!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
