Happy Thursday! Today is March 2, 2023. This is an amazing section of scripture for everyone, but for husbands especially! Read verses 1-15 slowly and digest the meaning of a spiritual principle that the heads of households must understand. Just being quiet isn’t enough to nullify what the enemy intends to do. Here are some instructions about spiritual warfare that could protect your marriage and family. Read on …
Today's Reading:
Numbers 30,31; Mark 9
Scripture
“If a woman living with her husband makes a (rash) vow or obligates herself, and her husband hears about it and says nothing to her and does not forbid her, then all the vows or pledges by which she obligated herself will stand … because he said nothing to her on the day he heard them.” (Numbers 30:10,11,14)
Observation
Leadership is a persistent responsibility. Beginning with his own home, a leader must be vigilant about the words being spoken each day. Negative, rash “asides” spoken in anger or impulsive statements hurled like grenades in a disagreement… if left unchecked, will leave a residue that takes an acidic toll. Like a corrosive chemical, it starts to discolor a once-pure heart.
This portion of scripture teaches that if a husband remains passive when a wife says something negative in a moment of exasperation, her rash statement will begin a decaying process that will undermine the foundation of what could have been a strong and healthy home.
Application
How many families would be much stronger if we, as husbands, took our biblical role as the head of our homes? (I wish I had learned this many years earlier!) But at least we can begin to learn and apply it now.
Leadership starts at home, and how we fare will positively … or adversely affect all other areas of our lives. This is an important reminder that I must first be vigilant with my words and quick to ask forgiveness when a reckless judgment is made. Then I must, with grace, gently correct the impetuous words of those in my family to nullify the corrosive effects.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be vigilant, starting with my home. First, help me govern my own words, then with great grace, keep an atmosphere of positivity and faith in our family and church. Finally, keep me attentive to any spiritual pathogens disguised in harmless “asides” and, when necessary, nullify their effects and restore Your favor on our relationships.
