Good morning. It’s Monday, August 8th, 2022. Today is an encouragement to keep on keepin’ on! I have satellite radio in my car with over 100 stations, but I usually only tune in to my favorite one. There are so many voices vying for our attention, but let’s tune into heaven’s favorite … lest we listen to propaganda from below. What station is this? Read on …
Today's Reading:
Jeremiah 1,2; John 10
Scripture
“When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10:4-5)
Observation
It’s a different take than we’re used to. We are to know the shepherd’s voice and steer away from any other. His voice is our Guidance System and divine GPS that escorts us in the right direction. The more we know His voice: His inflections, timbre, tone, and the resonance of how God speaks, the more we will be able to readily distinguish His voice from the counterfeits that come calling and cajoling.
Counter-intuitively, it is not being briefed daily on current events and updated on the most recent news headlines. While that may be secondarily important, without knowing His Voice, we will know the problems without the answer. We will be heavy on data and low on solutions, which only scores high on worries … and low on peace.
Application
Knowing and recognizing the sound of His voice and being familiar with His Word are essential to being followers of Christ. We follow because we know His voice, and we choose not to listen to the voice of strangers.
So what’s the bottom line? Exactly what you and I are doing daily: tuning into His Podcast, His Radio station, and His Book!
When we are heading in the wrong direction, you’ll get a check ... not because you know or have studied up on the enemy’s schemes. Instead, we are so familiar with His character and voice that we can immediately detect what isn’t of God.
Prayer
Lord, keep me close to Your Word so that I intimately know Your whispers. There are many alluring voices, so keep me close to Your heart where I will find peace and comfort in Your voice. I anticipate my early morning watches with You. Thank You for speaking each time we meet for daily devotions.
