Growing Potential

by Wayne Cordeiro on November 01, 2023

Welcome to November!  It’s Wednesday the 1st, 2023! I was at the bank some years ago and watched a teller handle thousands of dollars, but not for once did she claim all that passed through her hands… as hers. She simply remained faithful and accountable for handling the money as she was directed. It wasn’t long before the bank promoted her and put her in charge of the whole branch! She had shown herself faithful. Today’s lesson reminds us to steward well what God entrusts to us. Read on …

Today's Reading:

Psalms 121; Mark 9,10

Scripture

"Jesus said, ‘Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.’" (Mark 10:29-30)

Observation

This investment yields the highest rate of return! Mark 4, Jesus reminded us that seeds sown on good ground can yield returns of 30, 60, or even 100 times! Now in Mark 10, Jesus reminds us again to invest what we have been given in the Kingdom's sake and the Gospel's.

God front-loaded us with capital from the Kingdom's resources. He placed it within us in "potential" form. God vested us with enough capital to become all He has designed us to become. Everything we can become, but have not yet achieved, lies within us. As we invest in our growth, learning, and application, God accumulates all the interest for us!

Someone once told me, "What God has given to you is your gift FROM God. How you invest and increase that will be your gift TO God."

Application

In Luke’s account, we find these words: “So, if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?” -Luke 16:11-12

There are many times that I must remind myself to invest what He has front-loaded in me for His sake and for the Gospel. I cannot expect it to grow if I’ve buried it in the ground. It takes effort, discipline, and even risk. In other words, we receive “potential” as a trust. The interest we gain by growing it increases us!

Prayer

Lord, please teach me how to invest what You have entrusted to me in a way that honors You. Everything I’ve been given belongs to You. I want to be obedient to steward what You’ve given and to trust You when You ask me to lay it all down. Most of all, may I be diligent in learning, growing, and investing all the potential You’ve entrusted to me—for Your sake and the Gospel's.
