Grateful Clothes

by Wayne Cordeiro on May 05, 2025

Happy Monday! Today is May 5th, 2025, and my heart is dressed in something special—gratitude. I believe one of the things that matters most to God is our thankfulness: for His grace, His forgiveness, and His redemption. This morning, though my jeans and T-shirt may look ordinary, they are grateful clothes—ones that express thanks for all He has done.

Today's Reading:
2 Samuel 10; 1 Chronicles 20; Psalm 20; Matthew 22

Scripture

“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are invited, but few are chosen.”  (Matthew 22:11–14)

Observation

The banquet was ready. The King’s heart was full, eager to share His joy. But those first invited dismissed it—they were too busy, too self-absorbed to recognize the honor.

So the invitation was extended wider. Others came—joyful, washed, and clothed in garments befitting a wedding celebration. Yet among them was one man who accepted the feast but ignored the spirit of the invitation.

He came to consume rather than commune.
No wedding garments. No honor. No humility. No thanks.

This silence—this lack of reverence—grieved the King as deeply as those who had refused His initial invitation.

Application

God’s invitation is sacred and special—I must never treat it lightly. Every day is a gift from the King, and I must clothe myself accordingly. I was a beggar, yet the Lord invited me to sit at a royal table. I was rescued from ruin, and Jesus welcomed me. I cannot walk into His presence casually or carelessly.

Today, I will practice gratefulness—no expectations, taking nothing for granted. Everything I have is a gift.

Prayer

Father, thank You for calling me! I am completely undeserving, and yet You chose me to feast at Your table. I pray that my life reflects the wonder of that invitation. Let my words, my attitude, my service, and my worship be wrapped in thanksgiving. Dress me daily in grateful clothes.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father...” James 1:17
