Good and Faithful

by Chris Kiriakos on November 26, 2025

Happy Wednesday, November 26th, 2025. You ever notice how they don’t seem to make things like they used to? There’s a difference between things made now and things made fifty years ago. I have a KitchenAid mixer that’s older than I am and it’s still running great. But nowadays, things feel like they’re built with obsolescence in mind. This will get tossed in two years. That will break in a few months.

Whatever happened to the days when things were good and faithful?

Today's Reading:
Matthew 23,24,25

Scripture

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:21)

Observation

“Good and faithful” stands in direct contrast to what we’ve gotten used to: cheap and unreliable. Disposable. Here for a moment and gone the next.

But “faithful” means a consistent quality over time — something that holds up. Something that lasts. Something you can trust again and again.

And that’s exactly what Jesus points to in Matthew 25. When the Master returned after a long time away, He looked at one thing: Had they been faithful with the “few things” He put in their hands?

Application

What are my “few things” right now? It’s easy to get pulled toward what feels urgent or demanding. And even the important things can crowd out the essential ones. But God is returning for what He’s entrusted to me.

The relationships I have, the gifts he’s given me, my assignment, and the condition of my own heart before Him.

These few things are the places where He’s forming faithfulness. A long obedience in one direction. A consistent quality over time. Whether it’s 1, 5, or 10 things, I want to hear, “well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being faithful in my life. Help me to reciprocate that faithfulness; develop in me a consistency that reflects a life changed by Your grace. I don’t want to take anything you’ve placed in my hands for granted, and I don’t want to squander anything you’ve asked me to steward. Whenever You check in on what You’ve invested in me, help me be found as one of Your good and faithful servants. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
