Classroom at the Crossroads

by Wayne Cordeiro on December 13, 2024

Happy Friday! Today is December 13, 2024. Ever feel weary from following God? While seasoned believers might not, for many, weariness becomes a classroom for growth. It’s not always a signal to quit but an invitation to persevere. If we haven’t yet learned to endure and trust until God’s work is complete, weariness can teach us valuable lessons. When we reach the end of our own strength, we find ourselves at a crossroads. A choice awaits us. What will it be? Read on...

Today's Reading:

Hebrews 9,10,11

Scripture

“But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” (Hebrews 10:38-39)

Observation

Doing the will of God doesn’t come with “peaches and cream” catered for dessert. Instead, life may serve us a generous helping of speed bumps and broken expectations. But that doesn’t mean God’s promises have been thwarted.

We might be misled into thinking that serving God will make our problems rare and blessings abundant. When reality doesn’t align with this expectation, our tendency is to shrink back at the crossroads.

We experience combat fatigue, and when that happens (as it does for all of us), we may want to retreat—not just from responsibility but from our Calling.

Hebrews reminds us that obedience won’t always bring warm feelings. The righteous live by faith, not by feelings.

Application

It’s okay to take a break from the rigors of life, but not from our calling. We can step back to recover from fatigue, but we must not step away from the assignment God has entrusted to us.

When we grow weary, we often find ourselves at a crossroads. But at that crossroads, we must see the “Cross” in the crossroad. I am reminded anew to fix my eyes on obedience, not convenience.

At the crossroads, I see the Cross—and I see what He endured for my sake. It is in that moment that something within me opens to a divine unction. When I come to the end of my natural strength, I hit a crossroad. There, I must choose to tap into His supernatural strength; for only when I become weak can I start to grow strong.

Situations that challenge or overwhelm me become either a classroom for growth or a casket for my calling. The choice is mine.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for reminding me today that my reward is found in obedience, not convenience. Help me remain obedient in all I do, and grant me Your sustaining endurance to forge ahead. Let my crossroads become classrooms, and may I take joy in knowing that You are my Instructor. Amen.
