Happy Monday! It’s August 15th, 2022. We had amazing “Island Style” worship concerts and services this weekend! God must love cultures because He made so many of them! I love the ethnic variety of our church. It must be the most ethnically and generationally diverse church in the state! And we want to make Him known in as many ways as we can: through music, the arts, the Word of God, books, cinema... That, by the way, was the request of Jesus. Read on …
Today's Reading:
Jeremiah 18,19,20; Psalms 93; John 17
Scripture
“ I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” (John 17:26)
Observation
We live in a post-Christian era where Jesus Christ is not as known as He once was. Some people have heard false reports about who Jesus is, or maybe a poor example of a Christian soured their thinking. Others have opted for humanism, where the mix of technology, peer pressure, and man’s arrogance has produced a self-destructive concoction. In any case, this blend of drink is being served everywhere: in our schools, books, government, and marketplace.
One of the most dangerous places to send our children is to the secular universities taught by atheistic professors. Statistics tell us that over 60% of Christian young people will lose their faith upon graduating from secular colleges. I am ever so grateful for parachurch and other Christian ministries that search out young men and women to make Him known! This is the request of Jesus Christ …. To make Him known among the peoples of every nation, every tribe, every city in every nation.
Application
How can we make Him known this week? The ways are multitudinous:
- A word of encouragement to someone who needs to hear from God.
- An invitation to church or a Bible Study.
- Have lunch where you might talk about the value of our souls.
- Better yet, what about an open discussion with one of your children about Christ?
Just think… if we each did that each week, we really could make Him known!
That is by request from Jesus Himself.
Prayer
Father, this week, I will continue to make You known! The shadows of disbelief and godlessness grow longer each day. We desperately need more of Your people to make You known to the millions who do not yet know You! Please help us to do that in every way we can. We will redeem the arts, music, social media, and by every means we can to make You known. This is Your request in John 17, and our answer is “YES!”
