Thoughtful Thursday – September 4, 2025. Did you know the Bible describes a spiritual wall around God’s people? In Ezekiel, God says that wall can either be built up or torn down. He looked for someone to stand in the gap where it was broken—but found no one.
Today's Reading:
Ezekiel 22,23,24; Revelation 9
Scripture
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” (Ezekiel 22:30)
Observation
In ancient times, a wall was the best means of protection. It kept danger out and safety in. But when a breach opened, enemies poured through.
God uses that picture in Ezekiel to describe the spiritual wall around His people. The breaches came because leaders led poorly and turned to sin. God longed for someone to step up—leaders, parents, shepherds, influencers—to stand in the gap and protect His people.
It’s a sobering picture. Godly leaders are like walls guarding God’s children. But when we abandon our post—at home, in schools, in government, in churches—it’s like leaving a hole wide open. And the enemy doesn’t wait. He rushes in to steal, kill, and destroy.
Application
Books like Ezekiel aren’t always easy to understand, but God often teaches us through parables, allegories, and word pictures so His commands will stick.
I see this wall in my own home—my wife and I standing side by side, guarding our children from the enemy’s schemes. I see it in our church—leaders locking arms together, forming a wall of prayer and protection. I see it in society—government leaders carrying the responsibility to guard cities and communities.
The Lord is still looking for people who will stand in the gap. The devil plays for keeps. It’s time for us to hear God’s call and take our place on the wall.
Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for Your Word. It’s not just another box to check—it’s our marching orders for today and tomorrow. Make me someone You can count on to stand in the gap. Strengthen us as leaders, parents, shepherds, and pastors to guard what is precious to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
