Good morning. It's Monday, June 20th, 2022. Today we visit with Elisha and observe one of God's many miracles through his ministry. God does not limit miracles. They are only limited by having no more empty pots to fill. What? Read on …
Today's Reading:
2 Kings 4,5; Psalms 83; 1 Timothy 2
Scripture
“Then he said, 'Go borrow vessels at large for yourself, from all your neighbors, even empty vessels, do not get a few' ... When the vessels were full, she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel.' And He said to her, ‘There is not one vessel more.' And the oil stopped" (2 Kings 4:3, 6)
Observation
Elisha's life was filled with miracle after miracle! On this occasion, Elisha was dealing with the widowed wife of one of his former students from the school of prophets.
"Now a certain woman of the wives of the son of the prophets ..." (2 Kings 4:1).
Her husband probably hadn't paid his tuition bill or rent, and creditors were threatening the woman and her family. Her children were the only assets she had of any actual worth, and since she couldn't pay, the creditors were about to enslave her children. Unfortunately, this current practice may still happen in places like Indonesia, Thailand, and India. Elisha asked, "What do you have in your house?" The lady answered, "A jar of oil." She had something that, if invested, would bring great return!
Application
If we take what God has already given to us and invest it, God will use that investment to fill our lives and keep us from letting debt destroy our life, marriage, or family! What do you have in your keeping? What has God placed under your stewardship? A musical talent? Organizational smarts? Technical savvy with computers or culinary expertise? Cleaning skills? Generosity in giving?
To have an investment God can use, we must take several steps.
- Identify what you have. What gifts has God given you?
- Hone that skill, fill it, and collect it. Ask yourself, “What do I need to do to increase my offering privately before I offer it publicly?”
- Finally, fill empty spots with your gift. In other words, find empty vessels or areas in your life where you can pour out your original vessel and be used in the making of a miracle! Through this, God will begin to provide.
Find others who may have an empty vessel … an opportunity where you can pour in prayer, concern, or even a physical way to help alleviate a need. When we stop seeing what needs to be filled, our oil ceases. So keep finding ministry opportunities that match your gifts! There will be plenty enough until Jesus comes!
Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for showing me the empty vessels that You can use to make a difference in the Kingdom! Help me hone what You have given me, increase and optimize it, and then fill empty pots and watch how You will multiply what I offer.
