Too Wonderful

by Chris Kiriakos on October 08, 2025

Happy Wednesday, October 8th, 2025! A while back, I decided I was going to fix my phone. It had a crack in the front glass, and I figured, How hard could it be? So I opened it up. Tiny screws. Ribbons. Microchips. It looked like the inside of a spaceship. But I pressed on—YouTube tutorial in one hand, tools in the other.

Long story short… I didn’t fix the phone. I broke the phone. I ended up having to get a replacement. What I thought I could handle turned out to be way above my skill level. It was too wonderful for me…

Today's Reading:
Ezra 9,10; Psalms 131; Luke 21

Scripture

“My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.”

(Psalms 131:1)

Observation

One of the shortest psalms in the Bible carries a lifetime of wisdom. David, recognizing his limits, declares there are “things too wonderful” for him: mysteries too deep, plans too intricate, outcomes too complex for his understanding.

Instead of pulling everything apart trying to fix what only God can handle, he chooses to quiet his soul.

Application

We live in a world that trains us to fix, figure out, and Google everything. Psalm 131 gives us permission to stop.

Some things are beyond us—and that’s okay.

Maturity in faith isn’t knowing all the answers; it’s learning to have hope when you don’t.

When I run into what’s “too wonderful” for me, it’s not a failure; it’s an invitation to trust the One who is even more wonderful than the things that make me wonder.

And I can almost hear David whispering, “Chris, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to rest in You when I can’t see the whole picture. Help me to let go of what is too wonderful for me and trust You with it. I put my hope in You—both now and forevermore. Amen.
