Stay Fit – Stay Focused

by Wayne Cordeiro on September 29, 2025

Good morning. It’s Monday, September 29, 2025. I have a quote by John Wesley calligraphed on my office wall. It’s not just decoration — it’s a daily reminder of what matters most. And today’s Scripture ties right into it. Read on…

Today's Reading:
Zechariah 4,5,6; Luke 12

Scripture

“The Lord answered, ‘Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.’” (Luke 12:42–44)

Observation

Jesus makes it clear: the faithful servant isn’t the one speculating about when He will return, but the one faithfully serving until He comes. The vigilant steward isn’t distracted, but focused on caring for the Master’s household — feeding, tending, and building what belongs to Him. The point isn’t prediction, but preparation. It’s eternity, not daily demands, that shapes his priorities.

Application

Here’s the Wesley quote I inscribed on my wall:

“I now value all things only by the price they shall have in heaven.”

That truth shapes what I call my one-year rule: I want to live as though this year were my last — whether Jesus returns or He calls me home. If that were true, how would I spend today? Would I get lost in trivia, or would I pour my life into what really matters?

That means three things for me:

  • Love and serve Jesus with all I have.

  • Feed and strengthen His people.

  • Keep myself fit and focused so I can do this as long as possible.

Our nation feels, as Simon and Garfunkel once sang, like it’s “slip-slidin’ away.” But Christ-followers can’t afford to be swept into that drift. The closer His return, the sharper our focus must be. I’m realizing that eternity is too near to waste on distractions.

Prayer

Father, keep me faithful and focused. Help me to love You first, serve Your Church well, and equip Your people to reach those still far from You. Guard me from distractions, and keep me strong and steady so I can finish well—until the day I see You face to face. Amen.
