Rumble Strips

by Wayne Cordeiro on September 04, 2024

Good morning. It is Wednesday, September 4, 2024. I was nodding off during a long two-day drive to Arizona when my car drifted, and the rumble strips on the side of my lane jolted me wide awake! It startled me, but at the same time, I was duly warned before the long guardrail could claim the side of my car. Although the bumps rattled the fillings right out of my molars, I am thankful for them. Are the Church and our nation drifting? Could the confusion and commotion be God warning us? What is He saying? Read on…

Today's Reading:

Ezekiel 22,23,24; Revelation 9

Scripture

“And the rest of mankind who were not killed by the plaques, did not repent … they did not repent of their worship of demons and the idols of gold and silver or brass … and did not repent of their murders, sorceries, nor their immortalities of thefts.” (Revelation 9:20-21).

Observation

Pretty crude group! They are saved from death, yet they refuse to repent. First came grace, then a warning, a two-by-four, and finally a wrecking ball. They simply refuse to acknowledge God. When they are saved from death, they call it “luck,” and they keep on living as they always have. They never consider God, and when He is mentioned, they disregard the conversation. They hold to a godless belief system, regardless of any new facts or truths that are presented.

Application

We can never say, “We didn’t see it coming.” God gives us fair warning, and I must heed those promptings and the “whispers of God” early on. When we refuse, the whispers turn into beeps. Those beeps turn into rumble strips… and then we meet the guardrail.

I need to attune my ears to the early warnings that the Holy Spirit is so faithful to send. I want to hear the quiet voice of God and press my ears close to His heart.

Prayer

Father, I see that today, people subscribe to ideologies rather than truths; they trust the research done by godless groups as thorough and trustworthy. However, help me always to heed Your Word and hear Your whispers. When I hit the rumble strips that shake me to my senses, remind me never to shake my fist, but rather, to thank You profusely and correct my course back to life!
