Good morning. It’s March 29, 2024. It’s Good Friday, but Easter’s coming! Join us for one of our six New Hope West services this weekend if you are near. Today, let’s pause at chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians. Paul is discussing one of the gifts of the Spirit, and it’s more common than you think. He does his best to demystify the gifts. They are not reserved only for the elite; they are within the reach of every person! Read on …
Today's Reading:
Judges 6,7; Psalms 52; 1 Corinthians 14
Scripture
“The one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church” (1 Corinthians 14:3,4)
Observation
I know several who hold the office of a "prophet." I honor them. However, I also know many who live among us, known for strengthening those in need. They are constantly encouraging rather than criticizing. These individuals provide comfort and consolation with genuine care and concern. It's an intentional ministry. Gifts are not mystical. However, when they are in motion, they are unmistakable! They transform a shallow culture into a vibrant one. They raise the temperature of the room; they eliminate the shadows. These saints may not hold the "office" of a prophet, but they function in the role of prophets, and the more, the better! They bring life with them wherever they go.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for all the gifts of the Spirit, but today, You reminded me that some of those gifts are in the form of people! They may not wear the label, but they unmistakably have the gift. These are the people who give us strength to carry on when weary. They inspire me to be my best and calm my fears when I am doubtful. These are the prophets, and these are among the greatest gifts of all.
