Good morning, friends—today is Thursday, July 17, 2025. How many times have you thought about giving up? If you’re human—probably more than a few. But the very thing that tempts us to quit often blinds us to the blessings waiting just beyond. James gives us the help we need to keep going. Let’s dive in!
Today's Reading:
Isaiah 29,30,31; James 1
Scripture
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)
Observation
Being blessed by God doesn’t always mean everything is going right. Sometimes, it means having a steady peace even when everything feels like it’s falling apart. James reminds us that blessing comes when we remain faithful under pressure—not because we’re strong, but because we don’t give up. Trials reveal what we truly believe and who we really love. And when we keep loving God through it all, He promises life—not just someday, but even here and now.
Application
Where in your life are you being tested right now?
Perseverance in that area grows as your love for Jesus increases. So what does that actually look and sound like?
“Lord, I love You more than the pain I’m feeling in ________.”
“Lord, I love You more than the loneliness I feel.”
“Lord, I love You more than what I think I deserve.”
“Lord, I love You more than the pressure I’m under.”
The prize doesn’t come from avoiding trials—but from pressing through them. It’s found on the other side of the quitting point.
I think we all could use an increase in love… don’t you?
Love for Jesus. Love for others.
Prayer
Lord, I confess I’ve been tempted to quit. Give me the strength to keep going—not in my own power, but out of deep love for You. Help me to love You more than my fears, more than my pain, and more than what I feel I’ve lost. Teach me to persevere so that I may receive all You’ve promised. Amen.
