Light Is My Armor

by Wayne Cordeiro on June 01, 2022

Good morning! Today begins a new month! It's June 1, 2022. It's getting lighter earlier now that summer is coming. And not only that, it stays light longer, too, so I can get more done! But the Bible reveals another benefit of light. It acts as a protective armor if we are willing to put it on, and with how the world is going … we'd better get some! Read on …

Today's Reading:

Proverbs 19,20,21; Romans 13

Scripture

“Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:12)

Observation

Paul exhorts us to walk or behave as if in the light—where everyone knows what is going on. If we walk as if in darkness, our flesh is tempted to act and then rationalize. However, whether we sin in the light or darkness, the wages are the same — death. But what Paul is teaching here is that in the darkness, our flesh seems to be more prominent, and we have this deceptive feeling that we are exempt from consequences since "no one sees." However, consequences result from sin — not a product of whether or not people see it.

So, Paul encourages us to walk in the light — to keep known as much as is appropriate. This is where the "Body of Christ" comes in. Being a transparent person is one of the best ways to put on the armor of light. Walking in the light is a protector and a strength against what our enemy would want to do. It guards me, my heart, and my life against the powers of darkness that wage war against our souls.

Application

Light is an armor — darkness is not. Yet, so often, we think it's the other way around. We believe we can hide in darkness, be protected by darkness, and are exempt from the devil's attacks in the darkness. Oh, how deceptive the devil is! We must let the Word give us wisdom and clarity on truth, lest we substitute a lie for the truth. Darkness does not protect — it makes us ever so vulnerable to the enemy!

Light is armor! Light is what God clothed Himself in. Light is how the Scriptures identify God's nature, and now, He calls us to be the same … the lights of the world.

Light is our armor. It's also our inheritance.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, may I walk in the light (1 John 1:7). Please help me never to be afraid of the light. We understand when children are fearful of the darkness — but how often we, as adults, are more afraid of the light. Teach me Your ways as I open my life to Your scrutiny and protection. I cannot expect Your protection unless I am willing to walk in the light.
