Good morning! Today is Monday, November 4th, 2024. One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to convict those He is drawing to Himself. He doesn’t condemn, but He will convict. The question is, how will I define His conviction? Read on...
Today's Reading:
Job 26,27; Mark 15,16
Scripture
“It was the third hour when they crucified Him. The inscription of the charge against Him read, ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS.’” (Mark 15:25-26)
Observation
In Roman crucifixion culture, the charges against the condemned were written above them—“murder,” “insurrection,” “desertion,” or “thief.” This allowed passersby to see the reason for their suffering.
Jesus, too, had an inscription, displaying the only “crime” the Roman court could attribute to Him: “King of the Jews.”
This infuriated the Jewish leaders, who saw His claim to kingship and lordship as an affront to their traditions and plans. Offense became their justification for demanding the death penalty.
They made feeling convicted a “crime.”
Application
I remember a man coming up to me after church. He said that although he’d attended New Hope, he wouldn’t be coming back. Innocently, I asked, “Why?”
“Because when I go to church, things are said that make me feel guilty.”
I thought to myself, “This man felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and he resented it.” He turned conviction into a crime.
Prayer
Jesus, who You are must never become an offense to me. You are the One who brings change and transformation. I welcome Your conviction.
