Inside Storms

by Wayne Cordeiro on February 26, 2025

It’s Wednesday, February 26, 2025. My day began early—3:30 AM. Some days start sooner than others, depending on what I need to get done. However, it can be wearisome to think that I am the one who must provide or that I alone have to get things done. But in reality, I don’t provide anything—God does. I just ride along.

Moses grew weary. Thinking he had to keep babysitting the complainers, his spirit became tarnished. He let the people’s complaints smudge his heart, and that one thing kept him out of the Promised Land. Read on

Today's Reading:
Numbers 19,20; Psalms 28; Mark 5

Scripture

He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels. Must we bring you water out of this rock?” Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. (Numbers 20:9-11)

Observation

Did you catch it? Moses said, Must we bring water out of this rock?” Somewhere along the line, he began to take on the weight of providing for the ungrateful crowd. That’s what wearied him. That’s what made him internally angry. That’s what caused him to disqualify himself from anything greater. He became one of the many whose graves would be dug in the sand.

Application

We face many storms, but remember this: even the smallest boat in the largest storm is safe—so long as the storm outside the boat doesn’t get inside the boat!

Moses let the outside storm become an inside storm.

When that happens, our spirits become sullied, and we start believing we’re the only ones left to babysit problem people.

When an outside storm becomes an inside storm, we hit the rocks.

Prayer

Father, remind me often of Your provision. I am not the one who provides—You are. I don’t give water to thirsty people; I’m only the delivery boy, not the source. I will speak, but I will not be driven by internal anger that I allow to brew. Calm me until I trust fully in You.
