Don't Despise Small Beginnings

by Wayne Cordeiro on September 29, 2022

Welcome to Oberammergau! It's Thursday, September 29, 2022. Today we are treated to the Passion Play! Since its beginning in 1634, this famous play only happens once every ten years. Nevertheless, through it, millions have come to witness the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our redemption. Though Oberammergau is a small town of only 5,000 residents, it has influenced the world from this little-known location. God can surely do the same with us today! I firmly believe this! Read on …

Today's Reading:

Zechariah 4,5,6; Luke 12

Scripture

“‘Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the LORD that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?’” (Zechariah 4:10)

Observation

We must be faithful in the small things! But unfortunately, many people are not moving with God because they are unwilling to take the small steps He placed before them.

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” (Matt. 25:23).

If we are called to something by God, we must leap at it immediately … no matter how small we think the calling is. Don’t hesitate to move in the direction God has called you! Don’t be afraid to take that first small step of obedience.

Application

We must also be willing to risk. A baby’s first step is small, but he is willing to risk it for the sake of movement. So must it be with us!

At times, the impossible is simply the “untried.” You can’t steal second base in baseball if your foot is still on first. Likewise, we’ll never see exotic lands unless we are willing to leave the comfort of our own shores. We must overcome fear. Fear of becoming a “has been” keeps some people from actually becoming anything.

Remember that you are not on this journey alone! God will meet you. He gives you power along the way. He did so with Moses, Joshua, and the ten lepers … and He will do the same with us.

Prayer

Father, thank You for equipping me! Help me move quickly in obedience, in whatever direction You call me.
