Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

by Wayne Cordeiro on November 10, 2025

Happy Monday! It’s November 10th, 2025 — and yes … we’re still journeying through Job! (Don’t worry, Job’s patience is rubbing off on us too.) Today, Elihu keeps talking, and this time, he drops a truth bomb that hits close to home.  Did you know a Cornell University study estimates we make 35,000 decisions a day? No wonder we’re tired before lunch! Most are small — toast or cereal, text back now or later — but every so often, a big one lands in our lap. And it’s those decisions that can make or break the course of our day … or even our character.

Today's Reading:
Job 35,36; 1 Corinthians 7,8

Scripture

“Beware of turning to evil, which you seem to prefer to affliction.” (Job 36:21)

Observation

When we hear “evil,” we tend to picture something dramatic — a bank robbery, betrayal, or scandal splashed across headlines. But Elihu is pointing to something subtler — the quiet compromises that chip away at our integrity.

“Evil” can look like cutting corners, shading the truth, letting resentment linger, or ducking accountability because it’s uncomfortable. Sometimes, it’s simply choosing what’s easy over what’s right.

Why? Because obedience always costs something.

It might cost our pride, our reputation, or even a few relationships. Staying true to God’s Word might make us look foolish in a culture that prizes “whatever works for you.” But every compromise, no matter how small, writes another chapter in our story — and we get to decide if it’s one we’re proud to tell.

Application

Elihu reminds me to pause before I decide — to test my heart before I react. Some days, that means reconciling instead of retaliating. Other days, it means forgiving when I’d rather fume. It means staying steady when my emotions beg for shortcuts.

Integrity might cost us something — but compromise can cost us everything.

It’s better to limp down the hard road with Jesus than to sprint down the smooth one without Him.

Prayer

Help me to walk the path You’re on — even when it’s uphill, narrow, or lonely. Give me courage to make decisions that honor You, not just the ones that feel easy. Teach me never to exchange conviction for convenience, or character for comfort.
