Happy Friday! Today is February 24th, 2022. What do you think Jesus is most concerned about during this pandemic? Take a moment to assess what you think is on His front burner. I wonder if we are often too concerned with what the world wants us to focus on and less about Heaven's concerns. Maybe it’s time for a lense-correction? Read on …
Today's Reading:
Numbers 17,18; Psalms 29; Mark 4
Scripture
"'… Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?' And being aroused, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, 'Hush, be still.' And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. And He said to them, 'Why are you so timid? How is it that you have no faith?'" (Mark 4:38-40)
Observation
This is a classic story of mixed joy and fear of the One the disciples described as: “Who is this, that even the wind and sea obey Him?” (v. 41). The disciples unnecessarily feared for their lives on this stormy trip, since Jesus had given them the key right at the beginning: “And on that day when evening had come, He said to the disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35).
It’s like the principal star in an action tv series; the main guy has to return for the next episode. Right? Seconds before a commercial break, our guy is injured, hanging off a cliff with an army of blood thirsty renegades looking down on him, and he starts to lose his grip! Then … cut! Commercial break.
Don’t worry. He won’t die! If he did, the series would be over! Mark my words: he will be okay. We don’t know how, but one thing we DO know: he won’t die!
The same is true with the disciples. Jesus said to His disciples: “Let usgo!” That should have been enough. So, when the disciples became afraid and anxious, Jesus said, “Why is it that you have no faith?”
They were concerned when Jesus wasn’t. That’s it, isn’t it? If it’s something that doesn’t rile Jesus, it shouldn’t rile me!
Application
Faith may be defined as being concerned where Jesus is concerned. If it riles Him up, get riled! But if it doesn’t concern Him, don’t be concerned, either. The lesson? I must discern what He is concerned about and put it at the top of my priority list.
In the areas that grab my attention is Jesus:
- Very concerned?
- Somewhat concerned? Or…
- Not concerned much at all?
Prayer
Lord, please show me the areas of my life and ministry you are most concerned about, and help me prioritize those areas first. And help me stick close to You because you will reign supreme in the end! So, when You say, “Let us go,” that is enough for me!
