Blessed to Bless

by Chris Kiriakos on August 20, 2025

Happy Wednesday, August 20th, 2025. There are some people who, if they find a $100 bill on the ground, will call Lost and Found. And then… there are the rest of us — the ones who pick it up, look both ways, and call…it a blessing.

Blessings are great! A surprise refund, a good parking spot, an answered prayer — who doesn’t love them? But today’s reading is a reminder that blessings don’t end with me…

Today's Reading:
Jeremiah 48,49; Psalms 67; 1 John 1

Scripture

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us— so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.” (Psalms‬ ‭67‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Observation

Israel wasn’t chosen so they could live in comfort while the world struggled. They were chosen to be a display case of God’s goodness so that “His ways may be known on earth.” God’s blessing is always meant to flow outward. The moment I think it’s just about me, I’ve missed the point. We’re not blessed to brag—we’re blessed to bless.

Application

If I’m not careful, my prayers for blessing sound like a shopping list: “Lord, bless my health, bless my family, bless my work.” And He does. But Psalm 67 pushes me to add two more words: “so that.” Bless me so that my neighbors see Your love. Bless me so that my kids grow up knowing Your faithfulness. Bless me so that others may come to know You.

If blessing stops with me, it dies. But if it flows through me, it multiplies. Blessed people bless people. Every blessing carries a “so that.”

Prayer

Lord, thank You for blessing me in ways I see and in ways I don’t. Keep me from holding on too tightly. Help me live with open hands, so Your blessings can flow through me to others. Thank You for reminding me that I’m blessed to bless.
