Happy Friday! Today is November 1, 2024—a new month has arrived, a month for giving thanks! Regardless of who is elected, as Christians, we get to give thanks because Jesus is still on the throne. Whether or not our candidate is chosen, we are called to pray for whomever God places in the White House. Daniel 2:21 reminds us: “God removes kings and raises up kings.” He has good reason for both. Please vote, then set aside any political debates because it’s time to get back to Jesus. Our relationship with Him is what unites us as one. Nothing else. Read on…
Today's Reading:
Psalms 121; Mark 9,10
Scripture
“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel … [but] about noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me … ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth…’” (Acts 22:3-7) selected
Observation
Paul was trained in the Scriptures. He went to Bible College. He was mentored by the best and was at the top of his class. He was known for his great zeal—until he had a personal encounter with Jesus! That changed everything. His encounter with the risen Lord would alter the course of his life and his eternity! It wasn’t the schooling. It wasn’t the training. It was his encounter with Jesus that began a lifelong relationship that would change everything.
Application
It’s time to get back to Jesus. Current events easily capture our attention, but that is a far cry from what Jesus is saying and doing. We are called to intercede for those He places in authority (see Romans 13), but our calling and identity do not change. We must continue proclaiming the truth and guiding people toward the Gospel of Christ.
Those caught up in the world may look to the government to define their morals and behavior, but we are not of this world. The Word of God is what determines everything about our lives.
Isn’t it time to get back to Jesus?!
Prayer
Father, thank You for always bringing us back to You. We may be in the world but not of it. We trust in Your sovereign rule; everything else is only temporary. Teach us to understand the times and to know what we should do, but also … help us be quick to return to You!
