The Call to Change

by Aaron Cordeiro on May 01, 2025

Good morning—today is May 1, 2025. A new month often feels like a fresh start, full of potential for growth. But change doesn’t always come easily—especially as we get older. When we were kids, time moved slowly and change felt natural. As adults, life seems to speed by, and shifting course becomes more difficult. Why is that? Fear of the unknown, the comfort of routine, and the discipline required to change can all hold us back. And at the heart of it, one thing often stands in the way...

Today's Reading:
1 Chronicles 14,15; Psalm 132; Matthew 18

Scripture

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.’”  (Matthew 18:1-5)

Observation

Who wouldn’t want to enter the Kingdom of God? Jesus makes it clear: entrance into the Kingdom requires change. Though the concept is simple, it’s far from easy. To become childlike—not childish—requires humility, vulnerability, and dependence on God.

The Lord knew this would be difficult, so He answered the call to change first. Jesus came as a baby, fully embracing the human experience. In doing so, He demonstrated humility and love—becoming completely dependent, just like the children He calls us to emulate. He lived a sinless life and became the perfect sacrifice for humanity’s sins, making a way and becoming the way into the Kingdom.

Application

The call to become childlike in our faith—humble, teachable, and trusting—develops a faith that transforms us from glory to glory. But there’s one barrier we all face: pride. Pride convinces us that we’re fine just as we are—or that the cost of change is too great. It resists surrender and clings to control. Yet real change begins with exactly that: surrender.

Surrender might mean letting go of control, forgiving someone, or choosing obedience even when it’s uncomfortable. God doesn’t expect perfection—only a willing heart. And when we take even small steps toward humility, He meets us with grace and begins to transform us from the inside out.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Thank You for humbling Yourself so that we might have eternal life and a clear path into Your Kingdom. Help us embrace change with humility and childlike faith. Teach us to depend on You, to welcome others in Your name, and to walk in the way of Your Son. Amen.
